Poor Zinkoff. He had a rough night trying to find Claudia in the middle of a snowstorm. I wonder why he kept seeing police lights late into the night, if Claudia was found at 7:30 that evening? We learn that Zinkoff is a hero in this section of the book. When we think back to the beginning of the story, we can see that his character has been through a lot, and has changed a lot. Now that we are getting close to the end of the story, how do you think the ending will go for Zinkoff? What are you wondering about?

Why does Zinkoff spend Field Day with the old lady on Willow Street? How does this show Zinkoff’s character?

Hi readers! We’ve reached an interesting point in our story, Loser, by Jerry Spinelli. Right now we see a character change in Zinkoff. He no longer seems to be the happy little boy that he always has been. Unfortunately some of the things other people are saying about him are affecting not only his self-confidence, but his activities and hobbies. We are hopeful that fifth grade will be a different year for him, and are learning now of a new friend he is trying to make. What do you think this year will be like for Zinkoff? What are you wondering?

Hello friends! Welcome back to our blog site. You can expect to visit this site once a week to share your ideas as part of a homework assignment. Our postings will always have to do with our current read aloud story. Our first book, Loser, is about a boy who just doesn’t seem to fit in. Donald, however, doesn’t realize just how different he is, and seems to enjoy pretty much everything about life.
For our first blog assignment, we’ll start off easy. We’ve been discussing what it means to make a wonder statement while we read. We’ve shared what our inner voice says while listening to the story, and shared some really great ideas. Right now Donald is taking his father’s mailbag around town to deliver hand written letters on a Sunday. Our next chapter is titled, “The Nine Hundred Block of Willow.” So far he’s been doing okay, but are you wondering about what might happen next? Share the thoughts that you have at this point in the story, and remember to respond to your friends’ ideas. I can’t wait to read your posts!

Hello new fourth graders! Welcome to our class blog page. We will use this page throughout the year to post our thoughts and to respond to the ideas of our classmates. You can expect to blog once a week, in response to a book that we are reading together. Feel free to post your first blog now, and tell me and your classmates something fun about yourself! I’d like to know your name, what you’ve been up to this summer, and what hopes you have for fourth grade. To post your first comment, simply click on the number you see located at the top of my post, next to the title. That will bring you to a page where you can type your first comment. Also, if you’re interested, try responding to some of your classmates’ comments! To do this, click on the reply button located underneath their post. If this seems too confusing, don’t worry! It’s easy to do and eventually you’ll get the hang of it.
Even though we haven’t officially met yet, you may know some things about me. Like I said in my letter, I really like to read! To me, there’s nothing better than getting lost in a really good book. This summer, I’ve enjoyed reading some great new books, mainly mysteries, because that’s my favorite genre. It’s tough to pick a favorite book, but I do really love The Tale of Despereaux, by Kate DeCamillo. She is one of my favorite authors, because I love the way she speaks to her readers. Did you read any books this summer? If so, tell me about them! If you didn’t get a chance to read a lot over the past couple of months, tell me about a book you’ve read in the past that you love.
I can’t wait to meet you and get started on our new year together! You can expect our time together to be fun, challenging, and rewarding. Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation!
